Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Raymer.
Aly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been involved with sports teams and around athletes my whole life. From swimming to tennis, boxing to rowing, I have dabbled in it all. When I graduated college I had been teaching indoor cycling for 3 years and it was the perfect way to earn extra cash while I looked for my “dream job.” Well a decade later, my side hustle is my career and I have yet to search for a new path. Today I am the Director of Talent at B/SPOKE and a yoga instructor at exhale spa.
I have specialized in opening new studios throughout my career and have built multiple teams along the way. I have studied and practiced what it means to be a mindful leader and with my background as a yoga instructor, I teach my students and team to workout not just for the physical benefits but for the mental health as well. I have created an indoor cycling training program that helps produce some of the best instructors in Boston (in my totally biased opinion ;)). My newest venture is hosting wellness retreats both within the US and internationally where people can come to unwind, learn new rituals and meet awesome, like-minded people. Not only does this fulfill my desire to connect people and share my favorite things in life (movement, music, sunshine & cocktails), but it allows me to travel while working!
Has it been a smooth road?
If I were to have had a smooth road, it would mean that I had not been taking big enough risks! Some of the biggest struggles for me were around personal development… it took me a long time in my twenties to leave and recover from a rather tumultuous relationship. The aftermath of that, took years of self-discovery and a lot of mistakes to get where I am today.
I have been fired from a job that I loved, had to leave studios that I adored in order to pursue bigger dreams and learned that you cannot always trust everyone regardless of the good you see in them.
My transition to full time fitness left me in a ton of debt because when you first start, you start on the bottom. You say yes to everything, paid or unpaid to get your name out there. It’s a sacrifice but in the end it def. paid off greatly!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am my company. My brand is me 🙂 I am a full time fitness professional with a passion for indoor cycling and yoga. I am known for my high energy classes that leave you feeling sweaty and inspired. I am a wild dance machine who loves a good party and cannot wait to travel the world. I am a connector of humans and live for my community.
I am most proud of my newest venture What Lies Within, wellness retreats, where I bring together some of the most inspiring people I know and share amazing rituals to teach people about the endless possibilities of their own minds and bodies.
I am a huge advocated of taking big risks, being your most authentic self and saying fuck the norm, do what makes you happy and you will be rewarded.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I highly recommend Boston for fitness professionals just starting out. It is a small enough city where you can grow your community easily and it is BURSTING with fitness opportunities. Bostonians favors local small businesses so when larger corporations come, the community stands strong and loyal! The city is a hub for athletes and people looking to grow stronger physically and mentally.
