Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Dascoli.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always had a special connection with jewelry since I was little. It started with my mom and dad, they meet in Jersey (Mom)/Bronx, New York (Dad) so you can imagine the stacked gold chains, bracelets and rings. When I think of New Jersey and New York I think of my Mom and Dad and the jewels they used to rock.
They both wore jewelry everyday, I don’t believe they ever took any of it off. I can’t remember my father (who is now deceased) not wearing his black onyx gold pinky ring, thick chain linked gold bracelet, small diamond earrings and a thick gold chain that held an eagle pendant. These pieces were part of who he was. I love these memories and will always think of those jewelry pieces when I think of my dad. My mom is still a huge lover of jewelry and wears the same pieces every single day, I can legit tell you exactly what she is wearing on her neck right now, same goes for her ears, wrist and fingers. Her style hasn’t changed much, she still loves to stack 2 to 3 gold chains with as many charms as she can get onto each necklace. She loves the sentimental value of these pieces and wants to keep them close to her.
Another influencer is my grandmother, who lives in Frankfurt, Germany, she used to bring back pieces of jewelry from her travels around the world. I have so many unique pieces that I will cherish forever.
I soon figured out that jewelry is more than something you wear. For me, the value of each jewelry piece is the memory attached to it. That is what I love about jewelry.
When I was older, I began selling some of my handmade jewelry at a local pop up and shop events around Metrowest. Fast forward a few years later, I became serious about jewelry and decided to start my own business, WearLex began in 2011. After becoming more interested in the jewelry world and as I become more fascinated with gemstones and their meaning I enrolled in classes at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and received four certificates and two diplomas as an Accredited Jewelry Professional and Pearls Graduate (GIA AJP, PG).
I started selling fashion jewelry when I first launched WearLex. A few years later and with a lot of work I revamped the entire WearLex brand including the jewelry design direction. As a Graphic Designer, this came easy to me, I had a vision and I made it happen.
I started designing pieces of my own, from sketches on a pad of paper, to CAD and then manufacturing. I found what I loved designing and making, unique and one of a kind piece that are exclusively made by WearLex. I take pride in delivering superior craftsmanship while sourcing the finest materials. My pieces primarily feature Druzy’s, Crystal Quartz and semi-precious gemstones and beads. The metals I use are 14K gold fill and sterling silver 0.925 chain, wire and findings.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would be lying to you if I said it has been smooth sailing from day one. As independent jewelry company you can imagine all that one has to do. I wear all the hats and sometimes it can get very overwhelming. I love the challenge though, everything that I have to do or learn on my own just gives me more business knowelege. A saying that has always stuck with me that my Mom always said, “knowledge is power”, education is never wasted. So true!
I am not only the owner and designer of WearLex, I am the graphic designer, web designer, product photographer/editor, packaging designer, I create all social media ads/content/marketing materials (catalogs and price lists), I fulfill and ship all orders and so on. I literally have my hands on it all! The struggle is finding time to do it all, people always ask me if I ever sleep, I do but not much. Nothing a little Dunk’s can’t fix, right? You cannot get to where you want to be unless you hustle, thats what I am doing right now.
Another struggle is getting my brand recognized. As a small business funds are very tight, I have to pick and choose where to spend my money. Advertising costs are out of this world so it’s hard to tell the world that WearLex exists just by social media posts and news letter blasts. So…if you are reading this head over to FB and Instagram and “like” and Follow WearLex, and tell all of your friends…..pretty please.
Please tell us about WearLex.

I am most proud of how far I have come along. It took a while but I can now say I am very comfortable with the way I am running my business.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently If I had to start all over again. All that I went through was a learning experience for me and I needed to go through everything I did in order to be where I am today.
