Life and Work with Jessy MK

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessy MK.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Boston based style blogger who focuses her content on fashion, beauty and lifestyle. My story begins on a vacation to sunny Florida. I encountered a young girl about 14 years old while swimming in a resort pool. She was an aspiring model and opened up to me about how the industry has made her feel insecure and unwelcome. She told me how she didn’t feel comfortable eating and wanted to “watch her figure” this girl was beautiful, in great shape and more importantly… just a kid! The fact that she felt this way made my heartbreak. We talked for a few hours and before parting ways I gave her my Instagram.

From that moment, I wanted to use my social platforms and blog to be a positive influence on young girls all over the world. I want women to know their worth, feel empowered and inspired. I made the move to join a fashion blogger community called, Style Collective. This company unites women and offers resources and sisterly support to chase your dreams. I started to dive in! Networking and jumping into any event I could. I started working with brands several times a month developing content and helping to market their clothing and products. I began to fall in love with creating and building relationships with some of my favorite brands. I attended New York Fashion Week 2017 and stood on the sidewalk overlooking the city and all it’s magic and began to cry tears of joy! It all felt so surreal. I continued on with creating, researching and educating myself any way I could. Fast-forward to now… I am using my voice to further spread positivity. I have teamed up with some Boston bloggers in my area to start charity drives. Recently, I have been planning a spring clothing drive for a local women’s shelter. I plan to continue on this path and grow along the way!

Has it been a smooth road?
The road so far has been smooth with a few bumps here and there. Aside from being a style blogger, I am also a full-time teacher. My biggest struggle so far has been juggling the two. I aim to designate my blog posts to weekends. I find that planning out content and topics ahead of time really does help! My biggest advice for anyone just starting their journey is to just start! Don’t focus on all the little details right away. Emurse yourself in everything you can. Network and reach out to other bloggers and listen to their story and how they started. But my biggest tip: don’t compare. Everyone has a story and keep in mind that people are most likely just going to show you their highlight reel. It’s easy to compare and get down on yourself but keep pushing through and enjoy your journey!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with It’s Jessy MK – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work with brands several times a month styling looks and creating high-quality content to share their story. The brands I work with I support and genuinely love. I never want my audience to feel like I am offering them a sales pitch. Everything I blog about I use, wear and highly recommend. I think what sets me apart from others is my overall goal is to make a difference. Sometimes, the blogging world can get saturated with competitive races to the top, comparison, and the haunting “numbers game”. My goal is to use my voice to spread positivity and give back any way I can.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I think Instagram is a great place to network and find a mentor that best fits what you’re looking for. I have reached out to many bloggers for tips and advice and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how many women truly want to help. I highly recommend joining a blogging community! I joined Style Collective about a year ago and it has been the best decision for me.
