Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelina Corrado.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Angelina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a passion for skincare and the beauty industry, especially makeup. Some of my very first jobs were with companys like Crabtree & Evelyn and Origins. After an unhappy attempt in the corporate world, I thankfully found my way back to my passion and in 2011 (at 9 months pregnant!), graduated from Elizabeth Grady and became a licensed esthetician.
I absolutely adore my profession. I have a real love and appreciation for the art of makeup. Having the privilege of making up a bride on her wedding day is such a humbling honor. Using makeup to help accentuate a persons beauty is so fulfilling to me. I love to play with and express myself thru makeup for creative editorial shoots. I’ve even been trying my hand at FX makeup at times which is so cool.
Helping people learn how to properly care for their skin is a real joy in my life. I often see my friendsfor customized facials and skin treatments in my home. I use things like coconut oil for massage and ground dried hibiscus to exfoliate. Many of my masks get their start in my kitchen. I believe the way forward is the way back in many cases, so I do a ton of research on old-school skin health. like using avocado with honey and lemon for a mask that hydrates as well as lightens scarring as just one example.
My friends and family, of course, are always looking to me for skincare product suggestions. As someone who is committed to eating, and really living, organically as possible, I struggled to find things on the shelves that I could suggest that didn’t contain tons of known toxins and unpronounceable ingredients. So when my I began making my own products from natural ingredient to use on myself it wasn’t long before my friends started to commission me to custom make them things like face masks, serums, and body scrubs. And, that is how I started packaging and selling my own homemade skincare and bath products known today as Eleven Eleven Elixir
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had a tough childhood. My dad wasn’t around and my mother struggled to raise four kids on her own. By my mid-20s I had to surrender to the fact that I, like so many others in my family, am someone who has the disease of addiction. Thanks to a 12-step program and, what I believe to be, the grace of God I am a person who lives in long-term recovery and most recently celebrated 9 years of continuous sobriety on 11/11/2017. (Hence the affinity for Eleven Eleven).
There is nothing I believe in more than following your heart and passion. I whole hardheartedly know that if we all do what lights us up, what brings us joy, we can make a beautiful living for ourselves… chase your dreams and the money will come. The universe rewards living with authenticity. I believe we are all given certain passions and gifts and it is literally a dis-grace not to honor those things. I believe in the power of positive self-talk. I believe in the law of attraction. I believe its imperative to always speak your truth. I believe in self-care above all else. Especially as a mother! We have to put our own oxygen masks on first so we can be there for the people in our lives who need us. Feed your spirit, nurture yourself, take a nice hot bath with some luxurious Eleven Eleven Elixir bath salts!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Eleven Eleven Elixir story. Tell us more about the business.
I pour my heart and soul into my work whether I’m giving a facial, doing makeup or creating an Elixir, my love for what I do definitely shines through. When creating an Elixir, I have the same feeling as when I’m cooking a great meal for someone I care about, love. I carefully select each ingredient based on its unique benefits to the skin. I’m Reiki attuned and charge all of my Elixirs as I make them. I will often incorporate some type of crystal such as quartz or amethyst into the final packaging.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I truly am so blessed to have many many women in my life that I love and respect and who inspire me every day. My mom has always been my biggest cheerleader. She never lost faith in my potential even at my bottom, when I did, Being in recovery has connected me to an abundance of women who have faced so much adversity and have stood back up after being down and out. Women who have become powerhouses of grace honor and dignity. More than I can even mention, to be honest. I am beyond blessed actually.
