Check out Kenneth Beane’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Beane.

Kenneth, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in Boston. My family has ties to Dorchester. I was born with a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis. In short, it’s mostly a lung and digestive disease with other complications that can arise. All of my care happens at MGH. I try to bring my camera with me to my appointments so I can shoot afterwards. I’ve always been fascinated with photography. In high school, I would buy film cameras and just take pictures of everything. The love grew with the invention of the smartphone. But it wasn’t until I had to take a break from work due to health reasons that I decided to pursue photography even more. I would sit down and Google everything and take notes as well as watch a number of YouTube videos. Photography is a great excuse for me to get out and explore and exercise my lungs. I never want to stop learning about photography.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love to shoot cityscape and landscape. I love Boston and I love to show off its beauty and charm. Another favorite subject I love equally is sunsets (I suppose I would love the sunrise if I was a morning person).

I want others, especially those who’ve never been to Boston, to see why us locals love it so much. From the Charles to the cobblestone, the different identities of each neighborhood and the blend of old and new architecture. Whether it’s a shot of the city or the sunset, I want people to say, “I wish I was there!”

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
One of the biggest challenges facing artists today starts at a young age, school budget cuts to the arts.

With modern technology, the arts, especially photography, is well inundated so trying to stay true to your style and get some exposure to your work can be challenging.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a Facebook page: Kenneth Beane Jr Photography.

You can also find my work on Instagram. My IG page is just not my photography, it’s also my journey with cystic fibrosis, love of sports, everyday life, etc.
