Art & Life with Sharon Schindler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Schindler.

Sharon, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My story began in grade school. I was always interested in art. At age 12, I received my 1st camera and began taking photos. In college, I studied business but my real passion was photography. I decided to buy a 35 mm camera and add photography classes in to my schedule too. From then on… I was hooked.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I capture the essence of Boston and beyond with vibrant image printed on wood and stone. The physical material becomes an integral part of the finished piece.

In my studio in the SoWa Art and Design District, my Boston and Vintage Collections fill the walls. Stone coaster and stone trivets are small pieces of my functional art. When I am not in my studio, I can be found exploring and photographing the streets of Boston and uncovering vintage collections to photograph.

When I see a good subject, I challenge myself to create a unique photograph. Lighting, composition and vantage point all play a part of the final image.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I like to capture the changes in architecture. I also like to take ordinary objects and make them visually stand out.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My studio is located at 450 Harrison Ave. #412b in the heart of the SoWa Art and Design District.

During the year, I also participate in shows ranging from pop-ups to as large as The Massachusetts Conference for Women.

All of my contact information can be found on my website.

I post daily on my Instagram page.
