Art & Life with Ariana Chariton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Chariton.

Ariana, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in Walpole, MA. I have a background in theater and Ever since a young age I loved anything that gave me the opportunity to get into an artistic flow. I have always been interested in traveling the world. I first left the country without my family the summer going into my freshman year of high school. Since then I have traveled to a few European countries, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Cuba, and many of the states. I will be interning with a designer in Dublin, Ireland this summer as well!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a fashion design major at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. When people wear my clothing, I hope they feel confident, beautiful, and a little bit spunky! I use a lot of bright colors and layering techniques, and I love to create handmade details to add onto my garments. My design aesthetic is a little bit quirky and it emphasizes that strong women are beautiful. I grew up with a mom who is resilient, compassionate, and fierce and she has influenced my outlook on design immensely! I always draw my figures with a little bit of muscle and I always have them looking ready to persist. I also have a strong interest in using fashion to help others. I hope that after college I can start a nonprofit organization that creates personalized hospital gowns for kids, and clothing that caters to people who have had diseases that leave different types of scars. Overall, I hope my clothes make people smile and make people feel confident!

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Stay perseverant! Learn from your mistakes rather than dwelling on them and never forget the joy you find in creating that makes it all worth it!

I am SO impressed with your work, philosophy and aspirations. Of course this comes as no surprise, as I have been impressed with YOU since you were born. My excitement for your dreams is ALMOST as big as my love for you, but that’s pretty hard to top.
