Wellness Wednesdays

Boston is home to some of the best Yogis, Pilates pros, fitness trainers, nutritionists and more – people who devote their lives to helping the rest of us live a healthier, happier and more peaceful life. We’ll be doing in depth interviews with many of these amazing souls in the coming weeks but we want to give you a quick introduction to some of the city’s wellness pro’s below.

Close out 2017 with this slow flow yoga workshop. Taking place less than one week before the shortest day of the year, we'll honor the transition from fall to winter with a guided meditation, slow flow yoga practice and intention setting ritual. Relax in a dimly lit room and allow yourself to experience the benefits of moving slowly and the wisdom of going within. Our yoga practice will be designed to calm the mind and soothe the nervous system. We'll explore some breathing practices that encourage inner awareness and take time to journal, reflect and set intentions for the upcoming year. This workshop is open to all levels of yoga students. . . Ticket price is $32 for members, $40 for non-members . . Save your spot by registering online at . . #solstice #solsticeyoga #winter #yoga #yogaworkshop #yogastudio #yogaeverydamnday #om #omfortheholidays #reiki #doterra #essentialoils #savasana #slowflow #vinyasa #candlelightyoga #yogalove #yogaaddict #yogateacher #namaste

"You can clean around the wound But if you want it to heal It just takes time And you can call up to the moon But if you want something to change You've gotta change your life And take your time —– It just takes time It just takes time It just takes time Hard work and your time —– The sun will leave the room Will leave you to the night And that's alright Because before the morning comes There's a certain calm And then there's light It just takes time —– It just takes time A little trust and your time You can change your life It just takes time A little trust and your time —– And I can sit and talk Because I was just like you So arrogant and brave Impetuous and blue But trust me as a friend And I'll do all that I can do And I'd do anything for you Because I want to see you through —– It just takes time Hard work and your time You can change your life It just takes time A little trust your time A little trust and your time…" ~@futureislands . . . 🎞 Photo editing: @boston_ian

Day 22 #mermaidyoga Baddha Konasana aka Cobbler ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・ Baddha Konasana is a pose where props can come in handy. If you can't sit up y'all or your knees are really high, sitting on a block or blanket will help add comfort. I'm using the different heights of the rocks here to help me. ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・ This is a great pose for PNF Stretching. Place your hands on your knees and press your knees toward the sky at about 30% strength as your hands resist any movement. Hold for about 30 seconds. Release. Maybe you'll notice that your legs will be able to fall lower. ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・ Just as how the shape of your femur can affect how you squat, the length of your femur, your torso, and arm can do the same. If you have a short torso, this could be easier than if you have a long one. ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・ With Bliss, Kate ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・ PS You can take a class with me at @lovekulayoga, @beaconhillathleticclubs, and Blue Lotus Healing Arts in Needham. Or sign up for a private session. My 2018 retreat schedule will be announced soon. Reach out to me above to know when.

This weekend, I had this moment skiing… it was a beautiful day, and as I stopped for a break, I looked out at the mountains with the sun on my face and felt so damn grateful that I could do this without unbearable pain. It was the first time in a few years, since having babies and spending a few seasons teaching our little people to ski that my husband and I had a couple of hours to ourselves (thank you ski school!) to explore the mountain. These past few years, the act of putting ski boots on and off, and even doing snow plow with the kids could result in so much pain in my joints from #rheumatoidarthritis . One of my biggest fears living with this disease is that I won’t be able to do the things that I love and that make me feel alive… Yet that is also one of my greatest motivators to stay on this journey to heal. Because I really want to keep skiing with my family, I want to travel and hike beautiful mountains, I want to practice yoga and take long walks. This moment on the mountain was a powerful reminder. This healing process is not perfect or linear or totally clear to me yet – but one of the great gifts it has given me is perspective. I am so very aware of how blessed I am and I make sure to take pause to appreciate the moments, like this one, where I am alive and moving and doing what I love. I still came home at the end of the weekend and felt pain, my kids still had plenty of patience-challenging moments, the weekend wasn’t perfect… but isn’t that life? The everyday challenges mixed in with the everyday miracles? So when possible, take a moment, let the blessings sink in, and keep doing the work to create more moments that make you feel grateful and alive. ✨🙏✨ #everydaymoments

Imperfections in pictures reflect the imperfections of our lives. After having my hip surgeries, my quads are probably the tightest part of my body so lifting the leg this high takes great effort. Add the dancer’s pointy toes, something I haven’t done much in my life, and you have quite a challenging exercise. And oh, let’s not forget this exercise requires the support of a Barre or chair, something I totally forgot while trying to have a perfect picture. Despite all of this, I love this picture because it shows how far I have come and how hard I must continue to work to keep my hips and my entire body healthy. If you are struggling with an injury, don’t sit on the couch waiting for it to get better ( unless of course that’s what the doctor ordered!) otherwise start moving little by little. Your body and your mind will thank you!! 💥Happy Monday Friends💥 Last month I recently announced I’m an ambassador for @dazey_la ✨ So what the HECK does that mean? It means that you get deep discounts on some of the coziest gear that’s designed by a local LA artist. When I was in #LA last year I found the perfect hat at a local surf shop in Playa Del Rey — little did I know it was Dazey LA, and now I’m part of that team! Dazey in-house brand is a line of graphic art apparel hand drawn and handmade to order. The theme of all the artwork ties back into our mission to #empowerwomen. We create the clothing to order in an effort to minimize waste and do our best to make a positive impact on the environment, we like the call this process "Slow Fashion". Use my special link [in my bio] to shop 🙌🏻🙌🏻 || I’m wearing the “Head in the cloud, feet on the concrete T,” and the @im_with_the_band_headbands headband! 📸: @scarletroots
